Book

My book, To Heal Humankind: The Right to Health in Historywas published by Routledge in July 2017.

Greg Grandin, Professor of History at New York University, author of The Empire of Necessity: Slavery, Freedom, and Deception in the New World, says:

I can’t imagine a more timely or urgent book. Adam Gaffney’s excellent To Heal Humankind is a sweeping account of a simple moral idea: that every human being deserves the right to live a healthy, dignified life. Gaffney is a medical doctor, yet he writes like a novelist and researches like an historian. This book will be required reading and will confirm Gaffney’s role as one of our most valued public voices.

Fran Quigley, clinical professor of law as well as director of the Health and Human Rights Clinic at the Indiana University McKinney School of Law, in a review for the Health and Human Rights Journal, writes:

Although I have not met Adam Gaffney, I feel indebted to him. Through his new book, To Heal Humankind: The Right to Health in History (Routledge), Gaffney, a physician and instructor at Harvard Medical School and active member of Physicians for a National Health Program, has given me a big boost in my work as an activist and teacher. The book provided me with cautionary tales, inspiring stories, and clear-eyed analysis about the development of the human right to health. It is a gift I am eager to pay forward to colleagues, clients, and students.
